I don't like using my email to sign up for things

I've always hated signing up for newsletters (by the way, if you want more of this content, sign up for the newsletter!). Every website nowadays seems to require some way of giving up your email, something like name.birthday.mothersmaidenname@gmail.com.

I've always felt like there should be a better way to protect my identity. SSO is nice, but its not supported everywhere.

In comes Pecan! Pecan takes your GSuite admin API keys, a list of emails, and let’s you configure Google groups on the fly!

This lets me create a custom email for every website I go to. ikea@bbsify.com,usps@bbsify.com, etc.

how to create new aliases

Using Google groups also has the added benefit of additional filtering, multiple recipients, and “send from” capabilities.

Additionally, since I’m using legitimate emails to make this work, tracking my behaviour gets a lot trickier for those data conglomerates. And if they sell my email off to some sketchy marketing agency, I’ll also be able to tell who sold it, because the receiving group has their name on it!

This project adds an extra step every time I need to sign up for something, but it's an amortized cost that I'm willing to pay for long-term protection of my inbox.

Prerequisites

Being a google workspace admin is the only thing required to make this work.
